Murrindindi Trails -Toolangi State Forest

On August 16, 2006, I went out to the Murrundindi Reserve, which is a 15 km strip within the Toolangi State Forest, along the Murrrindindi River, 100 km NE of Melbourne.

My route was via Yarra Glen, Glenburn, and Devlin's Bridge, arriving at Murrrindindi from the north.

An alternative route is via Healesville and Toolangi, approaching from the south. However, that road is used frequently by big timber trucks and care is needed.

I had previously been to the Reserve some months ago, and this was an opportunity of doing some more trails.

The River Trail extends 13 km from the Murrindindi Picnic Ground to the Cascades Picnic Ground, and I did the 4 km (return) "Tramway" section of this Trail, starting and finishing at the Bull Creek camp site. A feature of this section is the reconstructed timber wagon and original tramway track.

I then drove further on to the Cascades Picnic Ground, where I did the 2 km (return) rocky walking track to the Cascades. At this time of year, the volume of water rushing over the rocks is immense! This is certainly spectacular!

Not far away are the Wilhemina Falls, and there is a distant view from the road. Those Falls are accessed by a 6 km return track.
